Ten of the most interesting ambient releases from the last month of spring (excluding Boards of Canada).

Dionisaf – Blooming

Label: Ambient Cat (USA)

Genre, style: #ambient #drone #noise

Format: digital

A quiet bloom of improvised tones unfolds as acoustic guitar, lyra, kalimba, and metal xylophone drift together in fragile harmony. Each note feels like a petal opening in slow motion, carried by the distant flutter of birdsong.

Piscean Daydreams – A Sense of Time, A Sense of Place: The Driftless Suite

Label: Chitra Records (USA)

Format: digital, vinyl and CD + booklet

"To listen is to wander the Driftless itself: to feel its storms and its stillness, to pause within its vastness, and to sense the continuity of a land that has endured, largely unchanged, while the world around it has transformed". The Digital Album also includes a booklet featuring photographs by Geoffrey Mikol.

Zen Lemon – Functional Melancholic

Label: Ambient Cat (USA)

Genre, style: #ambient #drone #noise

Format: digital, vinyl and CD

This EP explores the tension between emotional vulnerability and compositional control. Tracks unfold like internal monologues, stitched together with unpredictable transitions, warped vocal samples, and modular synth flourishes.

Arovane & Taylor DeupreeEnth

Label: Laaps (France)

Genre, style: #ambient #noise #lofi #glitch

Format: digital, vinyl, CD

Aquainted through their shared love of music technology, and now a friendship, this is the second-time pairing between two well-known musicians from the ambient and electronic scene since some decades: the German artist Arovane and the American artist Taylor Deupree.

Spheruleus  The Lost Catalogue

Label: Whitelabrecs (UK)

Genre, style: #ambient #noise #lofi

Format: digital, CD

Since first discovering ambient music in the late 2000s, Spheruleus became for Harry Towell the outlet through which he documented both his surroundings and his own artistic development, using found sounds, inexpensive acoustic instruments, home recordings and layered electronic textures, to create intimate, narrative-driven sound environments.

Federico Durand  La Manzana Mágica

Label: 12k (USA)

Genre, style: #ambient #lofi #noise

Format: digital, vinyl

One of his most gentle, open and fragile albums to date, La Manzana Mágica is for sure an exercise in restraint, in letting the listener’s imagination wander around the space in between his sounds. His pure synthesizer tones and tape machine maniuplations take on an ethereal, almost haunting quality, perhaps feeling a bit darker than some of his other work. The inspiration and relation to the often-mysterious nature of the Cinderlla stamps is apt.

Teatre  All Constellations Weaving Into One

Label: Amulet of Tears (Lithuania)

Genre, style: #ambient #drone #noise #dub

Format: digital, cassette, vinyl

The sonic palette draws inspiration from the legendary atmospheres of Cocteau Twins, Vangelis, and Grouper, while the intricate sampling techniques nod to the influence of Oneohtrix Point Never. The album’s immersive world is further deepened by key collaborations: vocalist Ieva Semėnaitė lends her voice to the track Perseide, while artist Eglė Pundzevičiūtė appears on Sapiegų Park, contributing spoken word recordings of recent dreams.

Ian Hawgood & David Cordero  Shifting Times

Label: Noray Records (Spain)

Genre, style: #ambient #drone #lofi

Format: digital, cassette

The album unfolds through the transformation and layering of delicate textures, shaping a calm and immersive sonic landscape filled with soothing ambient atmospheres that invite slow, attentive listening in a time increasingly defined by acceleration and a constant sense of urgency.

Giannis Gogos  A Quiet Place

Label: Lontano Series (Italy)

Genre, style: #ambient

Format: digital, CD

A Quiet Place by Giannis Gogos was created as an exploration of warmth, memory, and the quiet spaces between thoughts. Most of the tracks were composed using a Korg MS-20 Mini, allowing its raw analog character to shape the emotional backbone of the record.

Toni Dimitrov & Blanket Swimming – Hermetic

Label: Mahorka (Bulgaria)

Genre, style: #ambient #drone #noise

Format: digital, cassette

Moving through drifting drones, fragile harmonics, and slow-evolving soundscapes, the album explores states of suspension, intimacy, and quiet transformation. Field recordings and arrangements by Toni Dimitrov intertwine with ambient passages by Blanket Swimming, forming a dialogue that is at once spacious and finely detailed.
